Melting Snow = Flooded Basement

Now is not the time for an indoor pool

Compared to years past, we’ve had a pretty intense winter here in New Jersey. As the temperatures warm up, all of that snow that up against your foundation may seep into the concrete and into your crawl space or basement. Some tips to prevent water damage:

  • If your home sits at the bottom of a hill, shovel snow away from the foundation. It’s a good idea to build up your flower beds to prevent a ditch.
  • Keeps drainage areas clear to keep the melt off moving. If you have a sump pump, running a bucket of water through it periodically will ensure that it will be in working condition when the time is right!
  • When it is safe to do so, remove snow and ice from the roof. This will help prevent melting directly down your foundation line. While you’re up there, clear out those gutters!
